Jamal
Mohamed College was founded in 1951, as an affiliated
college to the university of Madras. It was established
as a religious minority institution with the primary
objective of providing higher education to the
downtrodden and socially backward sections of the
society in general and Muslim Minority in particular.
Janab. M. Jamal Mohamed sahib and Janab. N.M. Khajamian
Rowther of revered memory were the founding fathers of
this institution. The college was inaugurated by Hon.
Thiru. P.S. Kumarasamy Raja, the then Chief Minister of
Madras with His Excellency, the Maharaja of Bhavanagar,
the then Governor of Madras presiding over the function.
Over the
period of 5 decades, the college was able to scale
greater and greater heights and raise to the present
status as a multi faculty institution with 14 UG
courses and 16 PG courses and Research Programmes in all
the departments by promoting quality and excellence in
higher education due to the sustained efforts and
dedicated leadership given by the college management
committee.
The college was awarded the coveted Five Star Status
by NAAC, an autonomous body of UGC, during the Golden
Jubilee Year.
The college was conferred with Autonomous Status by the
UGC in the academic year 2004.
